Jersey City police are investigating an incident in which three men were shot on Warner Avenue near Rose Avenue just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday. All three men were also charged with weapons offenses after a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun was found in their vehicle.
A 33-year-old Warner Avenue man and a 25-year-old Armstrong Avenue man who had been shot were located by police as they attempted to leave the scene in a 2017 Ford Fusion. A third victim, a 33-year-old Ocean Avenue man, who spoke with arriving officers but left the area, responded separately to the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health. All of the injuries were considered non life-threatening.
During the investigation, officers found in plain view in the victims’ vehicle a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun with eight rounds. The weapon will be tested to determine if it was involved in the incident.
Arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon were: Shawn Wright, 33, of Warner Avenue; Rashan White, 33, of Ocean Avenue; and David Cooper, 25, of Armstrong Avenue. White and Cooper were both released from the hospital and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Center, while Wright remained hospitalized for treatment of his injuries. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges pending.
