Hoboken, NJ — With the November 7 election date rapidly approaching, Hoboken’s 6th Ward City Council race has turned into a three-way battle. Lauren Myers, a Hoboken resident and attorney, is one of the candidates vying for the seat. In an exclusive interview with Hudson TV, she shares her motivations for running and the issues she plans to tackle.

Early Career and Civic Involvement

Myers is no stranger to public service; she has worked for her local village buildings department, a state assembly person, and even a Congressperson. She’s currently an attorney specializing in general commercial litigation but also dabbles in government representation and appellate work.

Main Issues for Ward 6

According to Myers, public safety and cleanliness are the two main issues troubling the 6th Ward. She notes that the ward has only received one stop sign in the past four years. With significant foot traffic around public schools and popular eateries like Otto Strada, Myers believes that a serious investment in infrastructure, such as additional stop signs, is long overdue.

Church Square Park

Another concern is Church Square Park, which sits in the heart of the ward. Myers is keen on ensuring the park serves all community members, from young families to older residents and pets. She calls for proper lighting and the installation of blue emergency lights for public safety.

The Rodent Problem

When asked about the rat problem that has plagued Hoboken recently, Myers criticized the current City Council’s response as insufficient. She argues that removing parklets, as Councilwoman Giattino recently proposed, is not the right solution and calls for specialized personnel to handle rat mitigation.

Development and Taxes

Myers is open to reasonable and measured development but cautions against high-rise buildings that could worsen sanitation issues. On the subject of taxes, she promises to scrutinize the municipal budget closely, unlike her opponent, Councilwoman Giatino, whom she criticizes for not proposing any counter amendments during this year’s budget discussion.
