Trump Taps Christie As "Breaking Bad" Commission Chair

By Eric Dixon

Chris Christie finally has a gig in Washington. Unfortunately, it’s more like an internship, and it’s not the one he wanted, but beggars can’t be choosers.

Perhaps even worse, the job is described in one report as “part time” and “volunteer.” This means Christie will not be required to step down as Governor. Christie is term limited and his term ends at the end of 2017.

According to multiple reports now out this morning, President Trump will ask Christie to chair a drug commission tasked with combatting opioid abuse. That is a subject area that has suddenly become an area of interest for Christie.  Just last month, Christie signed a bill into law that limits doctors’ opioid prescriptions to a five-day amount.

Opioids are substances which act to reduce or relieve pain, but do not treat the underlying cause of the pain. They are recently associated with abuse by users because of their effects which are considered to be like morphine. Unlike other controlled substances whose existence is illegal (such as cocaine or heroin), opioids themselves are legal, but their use and prescription by medical professionals has come under recent legal scrutiny.
