Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and its contractors have provided updated information about the construction around the Exit 14A toll plaza.
In the toll plaza, itself reconstruction of Lanes 8, 9, and 10 is continuing. Renovation work is also moving ahead at the existing toll plaza building.
Asphalt resurfacing of the ramps between the toll plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE) will take place this year.
During the week of March 6, structural steel installation will take place at the northern end of Avenue E. A detour will be required for the northbound lane of Avenue E near the Turnpike. Deep foundation drilling for new bridge piers (columns) will continue.
For the connector bridge between the toll plaza and Port Jersey Boulevard, final portions of demolition work on the old connector bridge took place on the nights of February 22 and 23. Traffic is now on the new connector bridge.
At the intersection of Route 440 and Pulaski Street, construction is continuing on the jughandle ramp, bridge piers (columns), and deep sewers.
In the ramp area east of Route 440, road construction is continuing on the new connector ramps. Construction is also moving ahead for the deck on the bridge structure over Pulaski Street. During the evenings of March 9 and 10, northbound Route 440 will be detoured to Pulaski Street and Ramp L (to northbound Route 440), from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., for structural steel installation work. That steel will already be on-site before that round of construction starts.
