Two armed robberties with 2.5 miles apart in Hudson County.
By Sibrena Geraldino.-
Secaucus police received a call about an armed robbery at the Extended Stay Hotel located at 1 Plaza Drive in Secaucus on Saturday, May 31 at approximately 1:30 AM. Upon arrival, police discovered a suspect stole $200 in cash and a cordless phone from the front desk. No one was injured in the incident and Secaucus police interviewed the front deck clerk who reported a tall African American male with a large frame, wearing a gray sweat shirt with gray sweat pants, entered the hotel and asked about hotel room availabilities.
The suspect than briefly departed and returned brandishing a black hand gun. Detective Sergeant Domminick DeGennero stated the witness said the assailant jumped behind the desk and had the clerk empty the cash draw and demanded the clerk to wait on the floor and not to move while he completed the robbery and exited the building. There were no physical injures reported at this time.
Only 30 minutes later and just 2.5 miles away at 500 Harbor Blvd in Weehawken at 2AM, Weehawken police were dispatched to the Sheraton Hotel on a 911 shots fired and armed robbery call from hotel security. The suspect also described as an African American male, fitting a similar description of a gray hooded sweat shirt attire, a black skully cap or do-rag with multi colored Nike sneakers.
Reportedly, the suspect entered the hotel inquiring about hotel rooms and left only to return momentarily with a black hand gun, ordering the clerk to enter a back office, where a security guard was posted. The suspect took about $1,000 in cash and witnesses say while pulling out the receiver from the phone, the suspects gun accidentally discharged. No injured were reported.
During our investigation, Secaucus police would not release any photos or surveillance and it is unclear as to why the robbery wasn’t reported to the media. Detective Lieutenant Iggy Mitolo of Weehawken police have not ruled out a possible connection to the Extended Stay Hotel robbery and are actively investigating this case. If anyone has any information regarding the Sheraton Hotel robbery, contact Weehauken police. All calls will remain confidential.
