Two drug-overdose victims found dead in Jersey City, three others hospitalized

Drug overdoses claim the lives of two area men Sunday morning, but it appears to be an isolated incident, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez says.

At 4:45 am on July 30, officers responded to a call for assistance at 2 2nd Street in Jersey City, where they found five unconscious men, according to Suarez.

Officers say two of the five individuals were dead of apparent drug overdoses.

Anoj Malhotra, 33, and Rishi Patel, age 32 were declared dead at the scene at 5:25 am, and the three other male victims were taken to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.

An investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducted to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Suarez says anyone with information about this incident should contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345.
