Two young adults struck by bullets while playing basketball at Mercer Park in Bayonne

On June 25th, at 2.27am officers responded to Mercer Park on the report of a victim with a gunshot wound. 21-year-old Jersey City resident male was found to have a single gunshot wound to the thigh.  The victim was playing basketball in the Mercer Park when he heard shots being fired.  A bullet struck him as he ran towards Kennedy Blvd. The victim could not provide a description of the actor.  He was treated at JCMC for a non-life threatening injury.  No shell casings were recovered and the type of weapon is unknown.  JCPD were also on scene. A second victim arrived at JCMC while officers were present. The victim is an 18-year-old Jersey City resident male and was found to have a wound to his right hand.  The 2nd victim was also playing basketball in Mercer Park when shots were fired.  He was struck as he fled the area.  He could not provide a description of the actor neither.  He was treated for a non-life threatening injury. The incident remains under investigation.
