SCHEDULE UPDATE: UNION CITY PLAYS TOMS RIVER NORTH AT METLIFE STADIUM ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29th AT 2 PM IN THE GROUP 5 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.
After winning the state Sectional Championship in thrilling fashion last week, Union City High School manhandled East Orange in the state’s Group Semi-Finals on Friday night by a score of 42-0 in a rain soaked clash.
The Soaring Eagles will now take on Toms River North for the Group 5 Championship on Friday, November 29th, most likely at MetLife Stadium at a time to be determined.
The Soaring Eagles were led by senior running back Ja’Zaire Aurelus, who scored four touchdowns and surpassed the 1,000 yard rushing mark with 145 yards on the ground. It was Union City’s sixth shutout of the season.
The defense was led by senior Omar Tillman, who sacked the Jaguars quarterback four times and had two, forced fumbles. Both fumbles were recovered by junior Khalil Sutton.
Five of Union City’s shutouts have come at home.
Toms River North will be a difficult opponent, having won two consecutive, Group championships. This will be Union City’s first crack at a Group title.
