Union City Armed Robbery Suspect Turns Himself In

UNION CITY – The suspect in the attempted armed robbery at the Boost Mobile store on January 13, 2015, was arrested yesterday afternoon, according to police.

Guy W. Douglas, 30, of Union City, turned himself in at around 3:00 p.m. on January 20, 2015, after he apparently saw a photo of himself in the news.

On the evening of January 13, 2015 at around 6:30 p.m., Douglas entered the Boost Mobile store on 25th St. and Bergenline Ave. with a black firearm and demanded money from the employee. The employee struggled with the suspect until the suspect fled the store. EMS responded to the location and treated the victim for a small cut. No proceeds were taken.

Just one hour later, police were called to the Exxon gas station on Tonnelle Ave. and 46th street in North Bergen, where a gas station attendant was also held up at gunpoint. According to the owner of Exxon, the gas attendant was sitting in the office when the alleged gunman casually walked into the gas station and pointed the gun at him, demanding the money. The gas attendant struggled with the suspect before the suspect just casually walked away, said the owner. The victim suffered minor injuries. No proceeds were taken.

The type of firearm used in both attempted robberies is unknown at this time but believed to have been a imitation firearm.

According to Lieutenant Loaces of Union City, police have every reason to believe Douglas was also responsible for the robbery at the Exxon in North Bergen. Cesar Trujillo of Bayonne was the getaway driver involved in this armed robbery and was arrested last Thursday. His bail was set at $200,000 while Douglas’s bail was set at $250,000.
