A Friday flag raising in Union City celebrated 215 years of Colombian independence, while honoring a local police officer with a city proclamation.
Detective Edwin Cardona, a native of Colombia came to the United States at the age of twelve. He was presented with a city proclamation during Friday’s event by the Board of Commissioners. Cardona graduated from Union Hill High School, eventually joining the Metro Police Department in Washington, D.C.
He returned to Union City in 2017 when he joined the local police force. He told Hudson TV he was honored to be recognized for his commitment to his job and the community.
A Colombian festival is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 20th, weather permitting, at Bergenline Avenue and 45th Street beginning at 12-noon.
