On a gorgeous Saturday afternoon at Ellsworth Park, Union City celebrated Earth Day and the importance of recycling to preserve our planet’s natural beauty.

Residents received potted plants and seedlings, as well as insulated bottles, recyclable tote bags and literature on the importance of recycling.

Union City Commissioner Wendy Grullon was on hand to greet residents, as were Assemblyman Gabriel Rodriguez and Assembly candidate Larry Wainstein.  Everyone stressed the importance of preserving the planet through recycling, plantings and common sense measures.

The annual event could not have taken place on a more beautiful day.  Employees from the city’s Department of Public Works were there to hand out the plants, while numerous outside vendors provide informational pamphlets to educate the public.
