Raising of the Peruvian flag and honoring local Peruvian Americans on Friday highlighted Union City’s celebration of Peruvian independence during a ceremony held in International Plaza at 38th Street and Palisade Avenue.
Approximately 30, proud Peruvian Americans attended Friday’s event, which featured Peruvian music. Union City proclamations were presented to two individuals; Yanina Paz, the owner of Paz Music Academy, and Roberto Zavala, a recording artist.

Several other members of the Peruvian American community received New Jersey Senate and Assembly citations on behalf of State Senator Brian Stack and members of the 33rd Legislative District.

These people included Doris Luz Ramirez for her service to the community; Juan Peredo, for his journalist career; and Maytee Maria Negro and Claudio Carrillo of Artistic Trajectory.
Congratulations to all of the honorees.
