Union City raised the Puerto Rican flag and presented proclamations to a local teacher and boxer during a Wednesday ceremony at International Plaza.
The independence celebration was highlighted when Sara Gilmore Academy teacher Jeannette Torres received her proclamation from Commissioner Maryury Martinetti and college student and boxer Keith Colon Jr. was honored with his proclamation, presented by Commissioner Wendy Grullon.
Approximately twenty people attended the afternoon event, including Gilmore Academy students and members of the high School JROTC, which took place across from City Hall.
