The devastating earthquake which recently struck the South American country of Colombia left destruction and death.  The municipality of Union City, under the guidance of Mayor Brian Stack and the Board of Commissioners, is asking for the public’s help in collecting donations which will be sent to the nation.

The City has partnered with Global Empowerment Mission in this effort to provide humanitarian aid.

Hudson TV spoke with Fanny Cedeno, who works in Mayor Stack’s office, about the collection drive.

Donations are being collected at the William Musto Center on 15th Street, seven days a week, through August 31st.  Items may be dropped off Monday through Saturday from 9 am until 9 pm.  On Sundays you can drop off donations from 11 am until 3 pm.

Items in need are non-perishables, including canned goods, such as chicken, beef, tuna, sardines and fruits and vegetables.   Baby items, such as diapers, bottles and hygiene products are also in demand.   Adult hygiene items, such as toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorant, toilet paper and feminine hygiene products are greatly needed.  Canned dog and cat food, pet supplies and pet care items are also encouraged.

Monetary donations are also welcomed, but no checks.  GEM asks that anyone making a monetary donation do so by scanning the QR Code on the attached flyer.
