The Union City Soccer Club welcomed the Cedar Stars Academy North to Thursday’s Summer Soccer Festival in Washington Park.
The festival highlighted the partnership between Union City’s Travel Soccer Team and the Bergen County-based, Cedar Stars Academy, a highly skilled, soccer academy which provides instruction to youth, making players the best they can possibly be.
Union City has approximately 250 youngsters participating in four age categories; under 10, under 11, under 12 and under 13. Through the arrangement with Cedar Stars, Union City’s kids are facing top notch, highly skilled soccer platers, which will ultimately give them a competitive advantage on the soccer field as they get older.
The Union City High School soccer teams will be the beneficiaries in years to to come. In the meantime, the youngsters are gaining valuable experience during the summer months.
Thursday’s festival provided fun for the entire family, as New York Avenue at Second Street featured ping pong, corn hole and tennis, along with refreshments, popcorn and ice cream.
Union City officials expect the number of youngsters participating in the soccer travel program will continue to increase in years to come, reaching more than 300 by next summer.
