Union City kicks back and cools off at Grand Re-Opening of Juan Pablo Duarte Park

Hundreds celebrated the Grand Re-Opening of Juan Pablo Duarte Park in Union City on a steamy Tuesday night and got a firsthand look at the new children’s playground.

With wonderful landscaping and fantastic water activities, kids can have a lot of fun cooling off
in the various pools at JPD Park this summer.

According to Mayor Brian Stack, the planning stage was about a year in the making.

“Basically I went to a lot of different amusement parks to see what they had — the slides we
had manufactured specially for Union City, that’s why there was a delay in manufacturing the parts,” Stack says.  “This piece of equipment will be open by the end of the week.”

There are many families in the city that don’t have much money and can’t take a vacation.

“I want to give the kids always a safe haven where they can go and have a great time,” the mayor says.

“It’s about great schools, safe streets, great parks. What kids are doing on their free time helps them with their education when they have recreation and good places to play — hopefully we’re providing that in Union City.”

Commissioner Maryury “Margie” Martinetti calls the park a wonderful addition to the community.

“It’s fantastic that the kids will always have a place to go,” Martinetti says. “I’m very happy, very excited that we’re opening the new park today.”
