A 23-year-old Union City man is facing assault charges after an alleged altercation with his live-in girlfriend.

It happened on December 6 inside the woman’s apartment at 30th Street.   According to a police report, the victim’s relative says Manolo Fitzroy Watson pushed his girlfriend out of their bed, causing her to fracture her ankle.  The report says Watson also grabbed her around the neck and pushed her to the ground causing her to sustain other injuries.

The woman was taken to Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center for treatment.

On December 7, police arrested Watson in the hallway of the apartment building.  Police say as he was being taken into custody, the victim arrived on the scene and tried to prevent the arrest, but was unsuccessful.

Bail has been set at $25,000.
