Union City man charged with DWI

A Union City man was arrested in Secaucus for drinking and driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Samuel Melgar-Pineda, 24, hit a pair of cars near 700 Plaza Drive and assaulted two of his passengers, but was stopped near
3 Millcreek Drive.

He also attempted to spit on the arresting officer, just missing his face while in the cellblock.

Melgar-Pineda was charged with DWI, one count of simple assault, throwing bodily fluid at a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and driving while under the influence within 1,000 feet of a school.

Bail was set at $5,000 with no 10-percent option, police said.

He was sent to the Hudson County Jail.
