A Union City man was charged with resisting arrest and assault after punching a police officer and trying to flee.

Union City Police responded to 1201 New York Avenue on a disorderly call.  Alex Polanco asked Officer Richard Velez who he was.

The officer identified himself, and then the 18-year-old raised his arm and with a closed fist punched Velez in the face just below the nose.

During the resulting scuffle, Polanco reportedly shouted at police, “I will kill you motherfuckers.”

They were finally able to restrain him with the help of Union City EMS – when Polanco told officers he did psychedelic mushrooms and was taken to Hoboken Hospital.

A female victim said she called police because Polanco pushed his way into her apartment through an unlocked door looking for someone named Chelsea.

According to detectives, the victim was afraid of Polanco so she ran to her bedroom and closed the door.

The suspect forced his way into the bedroom by kicking the door off its hinges, while yelling and screaming for Chelsea.
