The Union City Police Department has release the following information:
“In accordance with NJ Department of Health guidelines, anyone who has come in close contact with someone who has been exposed to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) should self-quarantine for 14 days. The Union City Police Department has 15 officers who may have been exposed so as a precautionary measure, they have remained under quarantine for the appropriate time period. We expect multiple officers who were quarantined to be back to work on Monday.
The important message to take away from this is that our officers, as well as members of the public, must remain diligent and practice safe social distancing. Unlike members of the public, however, police officers experience an additional risk when responding to emergencies. Officers are using personal protective equipment, sanitizers and equipment and vehicles are being disinfected. Residents are not alone in this fight.
We are in this together. ”
