Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for April 14, 2020.

Union City’s confirmed cases are at 1,346 and sadly 50 residents have succumbed to this virus. This number may seem alarming, but please don’t panic and remember that more people are getting tested and treated than ever before. Testing saves lives.

Worldwide more than 464,000 people have fully recovered from this virus. That number can continue to grow by staying home and those with symptoms getting tested and treated.

As time goes by and the weather starts getting nicer, people are going to want to spend time outside. Please remember that the parks are closed and that congregating or gatherings are not allowed. Please refrain from engaging in social events, any parties or any gatherings of groups of people. If we are going to slow the virus, we must remain vigilant and continue to stay home. Again, please stay home. We must all do our part.

If you do go outside to go to an essential business, keep safe social distances of a minimum of 6 feet apart. When visiting grocery stores, you should be wearing a mask. This is mandatory. If you don’t have a mask, please use a bandana or scarf. You have to protect your safety and the safety of others. The faster we slow the virus means the faster we get back to normal.

Residents should be advised of the following updates:

• The Testing Facility in Union City is located at the Municipal Lot on 36th Street between Bergenline Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard. Testing is done by appointment only and appointments can be made by calling 201-366-8465. If you are having issues getting through, please keep trying. The more tests we conduct, the more people can get treatment and the more lives are saved.
• A special thank you to our first responders, DPW employees, senior drivers and essential municipal employees who are working day in and day out to provide services to the public.
• If you need assistance with food, please call Mayor Stack’s office at 201-348-5757 or his cell at 201-376-1942.
• If you are struggling with depression, please know that there are resources out there for you. You can contact NJ Mental Health Cares at 866-202-HELP (4357) or the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.
We are one Union City. We are stronger together and we will get through this together.
