More than 80 Union City youngsters are taking part in this month’s, Young Marines Summer Camp, which is taking place at the Emerson Middle School gymnasium.  Participants ultimately join Union City High School’s Junior ROTC.

Run by retired Gunnery Sergeant Caonabo Reyes, the camp-goers are learning everything from discipline to Color Guard drills.  The Young Marines program is open to students enrolled in any of the Board of Education’s schools throughout the city.

The three week long camp is split equally between boys and girls. One aspect of the camp is teaching the girls the proper way they must wear their hair.  After all, this is a military-based program.

Campers are aged 7 through 18.  The Young Marines summer program will hold a graduation ceremony at 5 pm on July 31st.
