JERSEY CITY, NJ – Update from Hudson County Sheriff Frank X. Schillari regarding the case of a pedestrian struck at Lincoln Park in Jersey City last November.
“Today, members of my Crash Investigation Unit and Detective Bureau arrested Ansumana Wally, 19, at his home on Belmont Avenue in Jersey City, N.J., after charges were upgraded to Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, due to his alleged involvement in hit and run accident that occurred in Lincoln Park on November 1, 2015.
The victim of that hit and run, Stanley Mis, 66, of Jersey City succumbed to his injuries today at 8:22 AM.
Crash Investigators say Wally was behind the wheel of a 2002 GMC Envoy on November 1st, 2015, that jumped a curb and struck Mr. Mis as he walked on the sidewalk of the bridge that connects the East and West sides of Lincoln Park in Jersey City.Wally then fled the scene.
Mis was left unconscious and when Sheriff’s Officers and EMS arrived on scene he was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center and remained in critical condition.
In December he was transferred to The Hospice of New Jersey Facility in Wayne, N.J., where he remained until his death, he never regained consciousness.
Sheriff’s Officers found Wally’s vehicle on Belmont Avenue on the Evening of November 1st, and identified Ansumana Wally as the driver. Wally eventually surrendered hours after the accident.
Wally and his passenger, Samir Shaban, were initially charged with Leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury and were both released on bail in November.
Wally is being held tonight with no bail at the Hudson County Correctional Center in Kearny. He is scheduled to appear in Central Judicial Processing Court tomorrow.”
