Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced this afternoon that a man has been charged in connection to last Sunday’s home invasion and sexual assault against a woman in her Jersey City residence.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit has arrested 47-year old, Jermaine Adams and charged him with aggravated sexual assault, a crime of the first degree; home invasion burglary, a crime of the first degree; aggravated assault, a crime of the second degree; aggravated arson, a crime of the second degree; terroristic threats, a crime of the third degree; and criminal restraint, a crime of the third degree. Adams was already being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny on an unrelated matter when the above charges were filed.
Prosecutor Suarez credits the investigation and arrest to the Special Victims Unit and the Jersey City Police Department. According to the Prosecutor, the matter was expedited by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office new in-house DNA Laboratory, which produced critical results to assist in the investigation.
A press release from the Prosecutor’s Office states, “Shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a home invasion at a private residence on McAdoo Avenue. Responding officers located a female victim who reported an unknown male entered her residence through a window before physically and sexually assaulting her. The female victim was treated at a local hospital for multiple injuries.”

The charges against Adams are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
