On Sunday, March 9, 2025, the Weehawken Library sustained considerable damage due to a malfunction in the fire prevention system’s sprinkler system, forcing the second floor to be closed to the public. Photos Courtesy Township of Weehawken
Today, Monday, April 28, 2025, three months ahead of schedule, the Library has been fully reopened to the public.
While 500 books were damaged by water, the impact was significantly contained and the damage minimized. According to a statement from Mayor Richard Turner, “This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of many individuals. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Township Manager Giovanni Ahmad, Library Director Holly Pizzuta, Gary Cahill, Sherard Roderick, the entire library staff, and the North Regional Fire Department for their swift response and unwavering commitment throughout this process.”
