Weehawken Mourns Passing Of Former Councilman & Retired Deputy Police Chief

Former Weehawken Deputy Police Chief William P. McLellan passed away at the age of 73 on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.  A native of the township, McLellan’s life in public service began in the 1970s when he was elected First Ward Councilman.  He was also a teacher and Township Treasurer and Custodian of School Monies.

In addition to working as a teacher early in his career, McLellan taught young police officers at the police academy.  A member of the Weehawken Elks Lodge, McLellan received numerous police commendations throughout his law enforcement career.

He is survived by his wife Michelle and daughter Christina, and two brothers, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Leber Funeral Home in Secaucus from 3 pm to 8 pm on Sunday, April 6, 2025.  A funeral mass will take place on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Saint Lawrence Church in Weehawken at 9:30 am.

Deputy Chief McLellan will be laid to rest at Madonna Cemetery and Mausoleum in Ft. Lee.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Weehawken Volunteer First Aid Squad.
