Weehawken, NJ, 9th August 2017 — Niche.com, a Pittsburgh-based internet firm that analyzes dozens of public data sets and millions of reviews to produce comprehensive rankings, report cards, and profiles for every K-12 school, college, and neighborhood in the U.S., ranked Weehawken Township school District the #1 District in Hudson County. The District came in at #79 out of New Jersey’s 600 school districts. The rankings were published today via Niche.com’s annual list of the Top 100 Districts in New Jersey. Weehawken was also ranked in the top 14%, #1545 out of 10,500, in the United States.
In the new rankings Weehawken moved up 18 spots since 2017 when its was ranked for the first time as a top 100 district by Niche.com. These latest kudos, come on the heels of several prestigious accolades garnered by the District over the past year. In November 2016, the International Center for Leadership in Education named Weehawken “one of the twelve most innovative districts in the nation.” In May, the Washington Post ranked Weehawken High School in the top 12% of all high schools in the United States on its annual list of “America’s Most Challenging High Schools.”
Dr. Robert Zywicki, Weehawken Superintendent of Schools, attributed the District’s success to “the dedication and tireless efforts of our teachers, staff, and administrators, as well as, the support of our Board of Education and parents. Multiple independent rankings now attest to the quality of education we are providing to the children of Weehawken. I am immodestly proud of our small but mighty District!”
“We came together as a district and developed a research-based three-year strategic plan. Everything we are doing is tied to those goals. We increased the High School graduation rate 15% since 2015 to 98% in 2017. We also increased AP Participation by 83% since 2016.” Said Weehawken Board President Richard Barsa.
