Louisa Park, the largest playground in northern Weehawken, is temporarily closed. The township is doing a complete renovation of the Boulevard East site.
The $1.8-million project, which is being paid for using a combination of County Open Space Funds, township monies and state funding, will include new jungle gym equipment, new basketball courts, and new retaining wall and a brand new bathroom, a first for the playground.
Mayor Richard Turner says the renovation was long overdue, but once the project is completed, sometime between September and January, it will be state of the art and well worth the wait.
Louisa Park overlooks the Hudson River and is the largest playground in the northern portion of the municipality.
