West New York launches identification program helping immigrant community

West New York’s ID Program will benefit every township resident, including the most vulnerable communities— such as undocumented immigrants.

“They’re here in this country hiding because they have no rights, no privileges but they’re still human beings,” says Mayor Felix Roque.

So the idea is to get them some kind of ID so they could open bank accounts.  The mayor says he’s very concerned so that if there’s a crime they’re able to identify them. And it’s also for the general security of the country.
