Hudson County, NJ
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced the arrest of Anthony Ayala, a 31-year-old resident of West New York, following an extensive forgery and insurance fraud investigation conducted by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit.
Ayala faces multiple charges including Insurance Fraud [N.J.S.A. 2C:21-4.6a], a third-degree crime; two counts of Forgery [N.J.S.A. 2C:21-1a(3)], also third-degree crimes; and two counts of Tampering with Public Records [N.J.S.A. 2C:28-7a(2)], third-degree crimes. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Ayala has been released from custody pending his initial court appearance, which is tentatively set for Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
The charges stem from an incident in which Ayala allegedly purchased an insurance policy with Progressive Insurance on June 27, 2023. He then filed a claim asserting that his Jeep Wrangler was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Allamuchy, New Jersey. To support the claim, Ayala submitted altered New Jersey State Police reports. The investigation revealed that the collision actually occurred on June 26, 2023, before the vehicle was covered by Progressive Insurance.
Prosecutor Suarez commended the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit for their work on this case. The charges against Ayala are accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
