West New York, NJ – April 25th, 2016. Mayor Felix E. Roque, MD and the Board of Commissioners in conjunction with the West New York Police Department are proud to announce important information from the State of New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety. The Division of State Police Uniform Crime Reporting Unit disclose a 20.4% reduction of crime in the Town of West New York. Mayor Roque credits the decrease in crime “to the residents of West New York for reporting suspicious activity to the Police Department.” Additional accolades from the Mayor credits the “professionalism and dedication of the WNYPD for their continued service to the community.”
Mayor Roque is also pleased to announce the acquisition of four new Police vehicles at zero cost to the West New York tax payer. Funding for the vehicles derived from the Town of West New York Police Fund which does not include tax dollars. The vehicles are 2016 Ford Explorer Police SUV’s newly designed, pursuit rated and all-wheel drive to handle any weather condition. Other features include two low frequency sirens to increase pedestrian and driver awareness. Two electronically and mechanically controlled locking gun racks were installed on the inside of the vehicle partition to safely secure various weapons.
Lastly, the Mayor explains the Emergency Medical Service of West New York secured 6 state of the art defibrillators. The 7 existing defibrillators will serve to equip WNYPD vehicles in active operation. Police Director Robert Antolos confirms, “The West New York Police officers have up to date Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications, as well as Auto External Defibrillator (AED) training.” The CPR and AED instructional sessions were conducted by the WNYEMS, all certified instructors by the American Heart Association.
