“It’s very kind…. it’s helping other children, helping parents,” says seven-year-old Sebastian.
The mayor is happy to pay it forward to the kids of West New York at the town’s Annual Holiday Toy Giveaway.
“It just brings a lot of memories when I came from Cuba, had no money to buy toys… and I got a free toy. And you know what, it’s just a lot of fun – and I’m blessed to be here,” Mayor Felix Roque says.
From tablets to high definition TVs to bicycles to games, there was something for every kid to make the holidays a little brighter.
What’s Brenda’s favorite part of the whole day?
“Watching the magic show, like how the bunny came out and it was funny too,” the eight-year-old says.
Gabriel says it’s awesome for children to get presents before Christmas and they’re lucky to have what they have.
“I’d say they were very generous,” the nine-year-old says of what everyone did to pull this off.
That includes the mayor, West New York Board of Commissioners, West New York Police Department and PBA.
“That they were able to bring Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus here during all their work that they have to do at Santa’s workshop still.”
