West Orange man driving with broken headlights gets busted with drug charges and suspended license

KEARNY – A West Orange man was arrested on drug charges after driving a vehicle with broken headlights and having a suspended license, officials said.

On February 23rd shortly after 4:00 p.m. police stopped a 2001 Buick for driving without headlights near Passaic Ave. and Johnson Ave, officials said. The officer discovered the driver had a suspended license and also noticed a clear plastic bag containing a white, powdery substance on the center console of the vehicle, according to police reports.

Ramon Leston, 55 of West Orange, was arrested and charged with possession of suspected cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license. He also received the following motor vehicle summons: failure to maintain  lamps, failure to surrender license, and operating a vehicle while in possession of a controlled substance.

Leston was released on summons and is scheduled to appear in court on March 9th.
