Detective Lieutenant Danilo Cabrera of the Hoboken Police Department reports that two cars were stolen, one in Hoboken, another from Maplewood. One theft was early this morning.
This morning’s incident involved the ZipCar. According to Cabrera, 29-year old, Newark resident David Theodore was arrested at 2:19 this morning at 101 Clinton Street, charged with burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.
At about 2 AM, Sergeant Donald Rosso was waved down in the area of 1st Street and Willow Avenue by a victim reporting the theft of her car sharing ZipCar rental. As Sergeant Rosso was taking her report, the victim observed her vehicle traveling westbound through the intersection of Newark and Willow Avenue. Kind of makes you wonder why a thief would remain in the area, doesn’t it?
Sergeant Rosso caught up with the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of 101 Clinton Street. Police Officer Domenick Allegretta and Police Officer Frank Lombardo responded as backup.
The operator was identified as Theodore. The vehicle was confirmed to be the stolen rental vehicle in question. Theodore was placed under arrest and charged on a warrant. He was also issued a motor vehicle summons for driving while suspended. He is being held in the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.
Detective Lieutenant Cabrera says, several hours earlier, at 10 pm on Tuesday night, Theodore committed his first offense, receiving stolen property, a white Infinity, at 50 Harrison Street. He was arrested at 10:48 pm.
Cabrera says Police Officer Nicholas Protopapadakis and Police Officer Harry Montalvo conducted a motor vehicle stop of the Infinity in the area of 50 Harrison Street. The operator, identified as Theodore, was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. The motor vehicle investigative stop also revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Maplewood, New Jersey.
Theodore was placed under arrest and charged on a summons with receiving stolen property. He was also issued a motor vehicle summons for driving while suspended.
Theodore was released with a court date to appear in Superior Court on March 08, 2022 at 1PM. Several hours later the police arrested him a second time, as described above. ff to jail he went.
