The Township of North Bergen held a special swearing in ceremony this week for police personnel.  The event, held Wednesday at the Recreation Center, was held on the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the North Bergen Police Department, by ordinance, in 1923.

A total of 23 police personnel were sworn into their new positions. Police Lieutenant, Victor Quiero was promoted to Police Captain, Kaylan Dowd was promoted to Police Lieutenant and Jason Castillo was promoted to Police Sergeant. In addition, two detectives,10 full-time police officers and eight Special Law Enforcement Officers II (SLEO II) took their oath of office.

The 10 officers were hired as a result of a $1.2 million U.S. Department of Justice COPS grant that Congressman Rob Menendez helped secure for the Township of North Bergen.

Mayor Nicholas Sacco stated, “We are proud of our young men and women who have made the decision to dedicate their lives to this honorable profession.  Our neighborhoods are safer today because of our great police force and it is an honor to swear them in.”

Public Safety Commissioner Allen Pascual added, “We honor our officers who put their lives on the line to keep our town safe.  It was a special day for the North Bergen Police Department and we celebrate the hard work that our officers have put in to be worthy of taking their oaths before their friends, family and government.”

As for the other promotions, the breakdown is as follows:

New Officers:

Officer David Corbisiero Jr., Officer Jose Figueroa, Officer Thomas Lombardi, Officer Nicholas Manocchio, Officer Yoseline Marquez, Officer David Ramirez, Officer Gabrielle Rich, Officer Majd Siyam, Officer Rasheed Siyam, Officer Genesis Yepez

New Special Law Enforcement Officers II:

Christian Angulo, Angel Aparicio, Miguel Cardenas, Jordy DiLone, Andres Faife, Bryan Heredia, Michael Santini, Kevin Zambrano

“It is an honor to swear in our class of officers and detectives,” said North Bergen Police Department Chief Peter Fasilis.  “I look forward to continuing to keep our community safe with a force that is properly trained, vigilant and passionate about our community.”

Some 200 family, friends and township employees attended Wednesday’s ceremony.
