Major changes keep coming prior to the June Democratic Primary in the 33rd Legislative District, as incumbent Assemblyman Julio Marenco of North Bergen will not seek re-election on Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s gubernatorial slate.  Instead, Marenco plans to concentrate his efforts on the North Bergen Housing Authority, where he was appointed Executive Director back in September.  The Marenco news was first reported by Hudson County View.

The Democratic candidates running for Assembly alongside Senator Brian Stack in the 33rd Legislative District are previously announced incumbent Assemblyman Gabriel Rodriguez of West New York and longtime, North Bergen Mayoral hopeful Larry Wainstein, who has been defeated on several occasions by North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco.

Marenco, who was elected to the New Jersey Assembly in 2023 on Stack’s ticket with the support of the Hudson County Democratic Organization, is a former North Bergen Board of Education President and Township Commissioner.

It is anticipated that the Fulop Team will support two Assembly candidates in the 33rd District during the June Primary, but no official announcement has been made at this time.
