55 Bayonne Residents Sign Petition Against West 42nd Street Airbnb

Bayonne resident David Rivera delivered a 55-signature petition Tuesday night demanding the city shut down an Airbnb at 84 West 42nd Street, citing repeated late-night parties, screaming karaoke, litter and crowds that have turned a quiet block into a nuisance.

Speaking during the September 16 public meeting, Rivera, a 25-year resident, described beer cans scattered across the street, people filming videos outside the property and noise past 10 p.m. “This is a nice calm street,” he said. “We deserve peace and quiet… a little piece of tranquility is being attacked by this hotel, whatever you want to call it.”

“If it was a liquor store, bar or anything, the police department would go, okay, you can’t have people hanging outside. I don’t understand why they don’t try to close these guys down.”

Rivera noted the property has hosted groups of 15 to 30 people and argued that Airbnb operators should face the same safety rules as hotels or bed-and-breakfasts. Council members acknowledged the complaints but said pending legal matters prevent further comment, adding that the issue is under review.
