6 Jersey City Organizations Receive DOL Immigrant Workforce Grants

Six Jersey City organizations received $15,000 Department of Labor grants during a luncheon on Wednesday involving the Jersey City Congressional Immigrant Workforce Program.  The federally funded program began several years ago when Congressman Albio Sires represented the 8th District in Congress.

The funding is used by the recipient organizations for job training, resume writing and English as a Second Language for the more than 40% of the city’s population which came to Jersey City from foreign countries.

The goal is to make the immigrants’ transition to American culture as simple as possible so they can gain employment and contribute to the United States economy.

The total amount of the DOL grant to Jersey City was $250,000.
