During the Union City Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday night, an ordinance calling for $650,000 in capital improvement funds to resurface parks with safety matting was approved.

The matting will be installed in all of the city’s parks, making sure children do not hurt themselves when using the various playground equipment.

In addition, the Commissioners passed a resolution allowing them to apply for a New Jersey Department of Community Affairs grant totaling $1.25-million.  The money will allow the city to build a small, passive park and youth soccer field at the corner of 41st Street and Palisade Avenue.
