Union City is now requiring that all people wear face coverings when in public.  The requirement was signed through Executive Order by Mayor Brian Stack on Thursday.

When contacted by Hudson TV, city spokesperson Erin Knoedler emailed the following statement outlining the directive:

“As you know, Mayor Stack signed EO 2020-03 requiring that face masks or cloth covering be worn while out in public places.  The CDC has indicated that wearing a face mask in public is a precautionary measure and will help slow the virus.  We all have a responsibility to protect our safety and the safety of others.  The UCPD is out handing out flyers as a means to educate the public on the need and requirement to wear a mask or cloth face covering, such as a scarf or bandana, in public.”

As of 4 o’clock this afternoon, Union City has 1,657 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 86 fatalities.

Knoedler went on to say, “These numbers are the reason we are using all means possible to educate and mandate safety precautions.  We extend our sincerest condolences to the families impacted by this horrendous disease.  We keep them in our thoughts and prayers every day.  We will continue to exhaust every resource possible to assist the public.”
