Passaic Man Arrested in Hoboken For Stealing Cell Phones

A 19-year old man from Passaic has been arrested by Hoboken Police for stealing two cell phones.  According to Det. Lt. Danilo Cabrera, Jose Cereno-Delrio was arrested on Wednesday, June 10 at 1500 Willow Avenue at 7:24 p.m.   He has been charged with theft and conspiracy to commit theft.

On the night of the incident, police responded to 5th and Jefferson Streets where officers met with the female victim of the theft.  The woman told police she was speaking with her mother on Face Time when a man on a bicycle rode by and stole her phone.

She said the theft took place at 8th and Clinton Streets.  She reportedly yelled at another bicyclist for help to no avail.  She told police it appeared both bicyclists were working in tandem.  Lt. Michael Costello caught one of the suspects at 15th Street and Willow Avenue. The other suspect fled the area.

Police recovered the cell phone on the ground.several blocks away.

Earlier in the evening, police responded to another call about two men on bicycles who stole a cell phone.  The male victim said he had his cell phone snatched at the corner of 7th and Hudson Streets.

An investigation determined at Cereno-Delrio was involved in the earlier theft as well. He has been charged with two counts of theft and two additional counts of conspiracy to commit theft.

He was remanded to the Hudson County Jail in Kearny.  If police determine the identity of the other bicyclist, that person will face the same charges.
