During his daily COVID-19 update this afternoon, Governor Phil Murphy announced, that beginning on Monday, June 29, portions of indoor shopping malls may reopen to customers under certain guidelines.  That certainly comes as good news for retailers who have seen their sales plummet over the past several months.  Some of the most well known department stores have even announced closures or bankruptcy.

Murphy called the indoor malls “part of New Jersey’s lore,” saying the decision to allow the resumption of indoor shopping is an important step in helping to rejuvenate the state’s economy.

The pending reopen comes with various restrictions:

  • Store capacity will be limited to 50 percent.
  • All shoppers must wear face coverings.
  • Restaurants will still be restricted to take-out or outdoor dining only.
  • Food courts will be closed
