17-Year Old Bayonne Male Arrested For Attempted Robbery of Electric Bicycle

A 17-year old, Bayonne male was arrested on Saturday afternoon for attempting to steal an electric bicycle from its 43-year old owner.  According to Captain Eric Amato, the juvenile was taken into custody at 2:19 pm in the area of West 27th Street.

Officers had responded to Avenue A and West 28th Street on a report of a robbery in progress.  According to the victim, shortly before police arrived, the teenager entered his yard on West 31st Street, started wielding a flip blade style knife, and tried to steal the bike.

The teen fled the scene on foot without the bike.  The owner followed him and called police as he was in pursuit.  Police were able to locate the juvenile on West 27th Street, and following a short investigation, recovered the knife.

As he was being processed, the teenager gave police false information on his parents.

As a result, the teen has been charged with robbery, obstructing a governmental function, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession  of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
