HUDSON COUNTY PROSECUTOR SUAREZ AND HUDSON COUNTY SENATORS’ STATEMENTS ON RENOMINATION REPORT

JERSEY CITY – Following a report that Governor Phil Murphy will be submitting her name to the New Jersey State Senate to be renominated as Hudson County Prosecutor, Esther Suarez released the following statement. Suarez was previously Hoboken’s corporation counsel and Bergen County counsel before serving as a Passaic County judge. She has served as Hudson County Prosecutor since 2015, when she became the first Hispanic and the first woman to ever hold the position.

“I have read speculation about my possibly being in contention for United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, and I would like to be clear that I intend to continue serving as Prosecutor in Hudson County. Our office has made remarkable strides in doing the work to take guns, drugs and gangs off the streets and I look forward to the opportunity to continue working side by side with some of the most dedicated members of law enforcement our state has to offer. It has been my great honor to serve Governor Murphy and his administration and it is my hope that my renomination will be heard by the State Senate so that we may all continue to focus on the important work of protecting the public.

The report that Governor Murphy will be renominating Suarez to the position was quickly greeted with statements of support from three key Senators.

Senator Sandra Cunningham: “Esther Suarez has been a strong advocate for the Hudson County community and I am proud to support her re-appointment.”

Senator Nicholas Sacco: “I fully support the re-appointment of Esther Suarez and look forward to her continued good work for the residents and families of Hudson County.”

Senator Brian P. Stack: “The HCPO has been transformed under the leadership of Esther Suarez. I am proud of all her accomplishments and fully support her renomination.”
