MENENDEZ, BOOKER ANNOUNCE OVER $177M TO REVITALIZE NEIGHBORHOODS ACROSS NJ
Approximately $20 million earmarked for Hudson County
JERSEY CITY, N.J. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) have announced the awarding of a combined $177,768,593 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Community Planning and Development to support the revitalization of communities across New Jersey.
“Families in all zip codes deserve safe, affordable, and high quality housing and opportunities to succeed,” said Sen. Menendez, a senior member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. “As we continue the recovery process from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is critical that we continue to provide the support New Jersey’s communities and families need to rebuild. This funding is an integral part of that effort.”
“Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, disadvantaged communities across New Jersey were struggling — a fact that has only been exacerbated by the health crisis,” said Sen. Booker. “This federal funding is vital to ensuring that these communities can recover and provide residents safe, affordable places to live.”
The funding announced today comes from four different grants designed to revitalize struggling neighborhoods and expand access to affordable housing. They are: the Community Development Block (CDBG), the CDBG Recovery Housing Program (RHP), the HOME program, the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Program, and the Housing Trust Fund (HTF).
