North Bergen Preschool Collects Cans In Collaboration With NB C.A.R.E.S.

Following their annual “Soup-er Bowl” can collection drive and thanks to the generosity of students and their families, the North Bergen Preschool recently donated 339 cans of soup to North Bergen C.A.R.E.S, the Township’s local non-profit organization that provides assistance to families in the aftermath of emergencies. Held around the time of the NFL’s Super Bowl game for the past five years, the collection was part of the school’s Ambassadors of Kindness program, which encourages students to think about the ways they can play a role in helping others.

“We are so very proud of our preschoolers for showing kindness towards those in need. These generous donations will go a long way towards supporting members of our community during some of the toughest times of their lives,” said North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco. “I would like to thank the parents, staff, and the rest of the community for their unrivaled generosity and support.”

“North Bergen Preschool not only prepares our children for academic achievement, but also instills important social and emotional skills that are essential for their personal growth and development. It is a cornerstone of our community, and I thank them for once again demonstrating that commitment,” added North Bergen Board of Education Superintendent, Dr. George Solter.

Earlier this school year during the month of October, Ambassadors of Kindness moderators Miriam Lescaille and Dawn Farmington held a “Sock-tober” event, where they collected new pairs of socks for children as well as adults. As always the generosity of the students and their families shone brightly and the school was able to donate almost 500 pairs of socks to North Bergen C.A.R.E.S.

Launched as a small program in 2013, North Bergen C.A.R.E.S. (Community Assistance Relief Events & Support) helps the victims of fires or other disasters. It has grown to meet the needs of residents and now coordinates the Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway as well as a number of other charitable initiatives.
