North Bergen Breaks Ground on 46th Street Park Renovation Project

Upgrades to a heavily used park in North Bergen are underway.  Mayor Nick Sacco celebrated a major milestone this past Friday, March 24, as he took part in a groundbreaking ceremony for the 46th Street Park renovation project. The project is a result of extensive community feedback and collaboration, and will enhance the park’s amenities and create a more vibrant and welcoming space for residents and visitors.

Joining Mayor Sacco in attendance were Commissioners Frank Gargiulo, Hugo Cabrera, Allen Pascual, Julio Marenco, Police Chief Peter Fasilis, Township Administrator Janet Castro, Parking Authority Executive Director Robert Baselice, as well as the two newest candidates for the North Bergen Commision, Hudson County Board of Commissioners Chairman Anthony Vainieri and school board member Claudia Rodriguez.

“I am thrilled that we are finally beginning renovations on the 46th Street Park, which many in the community have been strongly advocating for,” said Mayor Sacco. “This project is a testament to the power of community collaboration, and I am extremely excited to see the positive impact it will have on the neighborhood.”

Some of the key features of the project include:

• Major renovations to the playground area including a new spray park, structures, decorative lighting, and much more.

• Major renovations to the baseball field including the installation of artificial turf, a press box with sound system, a new batting cage, scoreboard and lighting, bleachers, and more.

• The construction of a heat resistant turf dog run including shaded benches and a water system to keep the area clean.

• The construction of a new parking lot and walking path.

• Resurfacing of the basketball court and installation of new backboards/rims.

• Renovations to the existing field house.

The renovation project is being funded by a combination of grants to minimize the cost to local taxpayers, and the Township is committed to ensuring that the project is completed on time and on budget, and to keeping the community informed throughout the process. Regular updates on the project will be provided through the Township’s website and social media channels, and community members are encouraged to share their feedback and ideas throughout the construction process.
