Hoboken’s newest athletic field has officially opened. This afternoon, Mayor Ravi Bhalla, community members, and elected officials officially cut the ribbon on the new multi-purpose athletic field at the Northwest Resiliency Park. The opening is the City’s first athletic field in over a decade. Hoboken’s youth recreation baseball and softball teams joined the Mayor and elected officials for the ribbon cutting, which was immediately followed by an inaugural practice.
“This new field is a game changer for our community, which will serve as a major benefit to residents of all ages and our recreation programs,” said Mayor Bhalla. “The creation of this field and the entire Northwest Resiliency Park has been a major priority for my administration, and this is an exciting day for Hoboken that has finally arrived in time for our spring season. I look forward to the grand opening of the rest of the park this summer!”
The new Northwest Resiliency Park athletic field is located at 12th and Jefferson Streets.

The Hudson County Open Space Trust Fund provided two grants totaling $1 million, which funded field construction and other recreation amenities throughout the park.
This coming June, the City will host a grand opening for the Northwest Resiliency Park, which is currently in the final phases of construction. The Northwest Resiliency Park will provide outdoor amenities such as a lawn area, picnic space, playground, basketball court, and more.
The park will help the City mitigate area flooding caused by heavy rainfall events using above and below ground infrastructure to detain up to 2 million gallons of stormwater. The park also includes the City’s third flood pump in partnership with the North Hudson Sewerage Authority, which will pump rainfall stored in the below ground infrastructure after a heavy rain event.
Payment for he Northwest Resiliency Park was funded by the City’s Open Space Trust Fund, Hudson County Open Space Trust Fund, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency, and low-interest loans from the NJ I-Bank.
