Even though the Macy’s fireworks will take place in the East River, and viewing from Weehawken will be limited at best, the township expects crowds to line Boulevard East and Hamilton Avenue, just as they did last Independence Day.

To ensure the safety of township residents and maintain open access to emergency vehicles, Weehawken has announced the following regulations will be in place on July 4th:

  • You must have a resident sticker to park on Boulevard East or Hamilton Avenue from Highwood Avenue to 51st Street
  • Visitors will not be permitted to park on Boulevard East or Hamilton Avenue
  • This will be enforced all day.  Vehicles in violation will be summonsed and towed
  • No traffic will be permitted on Boulevard East or Hamilton Avenue after 7:30 pm
  • They will not reopen until after the fireworks
  • Backpacks and coolers will be subject to search and are not permitted in public viewing areas
  • No public consumption of alcohol will be allowed
  • No fireworks, including sparklers, will be allowed
  • No barbecues on balconies, terraces or fire escapes will be permitted
  • Police will strictly enforce the prohibition of fireworks viewing from roof tops and fire escapes
  • Landlords are responsible for keeping people off of roof tops
