Hoboken officials have begun installing the first eight of 25 new electric vehicle charging stations.
Under its contract with Volta, the charging stations, which include four level 2 chargers and four DC fast chargers, will be located in various places around the city, including the Monroe Arts Center, Columbus Park and the Southwest Resiliency Park. They’re expected to be available for public use before the end of the year.
The first phase of the construction is underway on 10th Street between Clinton and Grand Streets. Teams are installing two level 2 charging stations–each one can add about 20 to 25 miles of range per hour.

Parking will be temporarily restricted in part of the area. Construction will continue in the area over the next two weeks from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
The new charging stations will be installed at no cost to Hoboken taxpayers.
The 25 new stations, together with the existing 11 city-owned publicly accessible ones, will ensure that residents will be within a five-minute walk of a public charging station by 2030.
According to city records, there over 1,600 electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles registered to Hoboken residents and the number is expected to triple by 2025.
Expanding the accessibility of electric vehicle charging infrastructure is a key initiative of the city’s Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and become carbon neutral by 2050.
